"Trailer" Chicago, IL 2024

A video performance and poem inspired by, and in memory of, my Grandpa (Julio Munoz) and the lessons passed down from the resilient roots of a working-class veteran—teachings that continue to bloom and deepen each day.

I am the everyday, the F@$?$& up, the wanderer.

I am not special; I am the unnoticed, the beautiful waxed silver paint.

shined with blood, sweat and tears,

yet we only focus on the rust and dents.

are we just the keys under the couch,

to the old Hyundai you don’t enjoy driving anymore,

longing for the new?

I don’t want that.

Polish our rust,

until it gleams like beautiful iron oxide jewels.

Embrace our dings and dents like the dimples of a lover.

Light reflects differently off us,

we are the rainbow in oil slicks,

The chair left open at the dinner table,

we are the deep love for the lost,

the human,

the salt of the earth,

We are the everyday.
